Welcome to Hamilton Wenham Generals Youth Football Cheerleading

The Generals Youth Cheerleading program is designed to allow girls to learn the basics of cheerleading which include cheering, tumbling, stunting, dancing, and some basics of football, allowing them to understand the game they are cheering for.  All girls in grades 3 through 8 are welcome to join one of our three squads.

A squad for 7th and 8th graders
C squad for 5th and 6th graders
D squad for 3rd and 4th graders

The HWGYF cheerleaders cheer for the H-W teams that are their same age group and those games are played on the weekends. Most games are played on Sundays; however, there are some Saturday games as well. Working on "Cheering" for the football games is the first priority of our cheerleading program. We work with the girls teaching basic cheers and chants that they perform during the games on the weekends. Our second priority is working on a competition routine.  We are involved in one Cheerleading Competition for each Squad A, C, and D at the end of every season.

Practice Schedules as well as other general information can also be found on this website. The Cheerleading Season runs from the end of August (summer camp practices) through the 2nd weekend in November (and potentially another two weeks if the football teams go into playoff season. We end our season with a HWGYF Banquet for both Cheerleaders and Football players.

Our philosophy is to give all cheerleaders a positive experience working with others and feeling like part of a team. We want to enhance our football games with fun, athletic, energetic spirit.  For any other information, please feel free to contact the Cheer Director, Erin Cullen.

STAY TUNED FOR UPDATES ON THE UPCOMING FIT NIGHT IN JUNE

HWGYF provides cheerleaders with the shell and skirt of their uniform – but we will hold a sizing night to ensure these items fit properly and allow parents to purchase additional items necessary to cheer.  These required items*** include cheer sneakers, body suits, socks, cheer bows, cheer shorts (for under skirt).  Optional items that will be available to purchase include: warm up suits (pants/jackets), cheer bags, practice gear, additional bows etc.

TEAM SERVICE

Each cheerleader will be expected to participate in all fundraising activities.  Typically, the girls sell pastries or cookies.  This year we are expecting girls (on a rotating basis - one time slot per cheerleader) to spend 30 minutes at home games for the team before or after them- selling 50/50 raffle tickets or GYF MERCHANDISE.  This additional service time will help offset the cost of the new uniforms and upcoming trainings.

Parents are also expected to participate in volunteer duties (unless they opt to pay an opt out fee).  These duties include concession stands, field markers etc.  We ask that parents take this responsibility seriously and parental commitment is integral to the success of the program.

Hamilton-Wenham Generals Youth Cheerleading Competition Participation Policy:

Due to number limits that are enforced by the Cape Ann Cheerleading organization, only 24 girls per squad are able to participate in the end of the season competition event. Our policy is that the first 24 girls to sign up will be the first girls eligible to be in competition. Any girls who sign up after the 24 slots have been filled will be an alternate for the competition in case another cheerleader is unable to compete. During the regular cheerleading season ALL girls will be able to participate on the squad. The girls are part of the team and will be involved in all aspects of the squad during practices, games and other events. The alternates chances to be put on the Competition squad will work the same as the original policy. The first alternate to have signed up after the 24 slots have been filled, will be the first to be moved onto the Competition Squad.
